She attended elementary school in a two-room school in Dabney and graduated in 1938 from Holton High School. Her first full time job after graduation was as a housekeeper for Dr. Debanaur in Holton. Jean volunteered for many years on the election board and was a familiar face to many voters in Center Township. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star, Versailles Chapter No. 333.
After Sherman's retirement, the couple spent many years enjoying the winter months in Florida. Jean enjoyed the warm weather, new friends, flea markets and family visits while there.
