Leah Augusta Backen, age 104, of Napoleon, IN, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2015, at Aspen Place Nursing Home in Greensburg, IN. She was born October 27, 1910 in Sibley, IL. She was the daughter of the late William and Martha Meyer Thielbar. Leah married Albert Backen in June of 1944 and he preceded her in death in March of 1980.

Leah began working at Marshall Fields, in Chicago, IL in 1930 and remained there until her retirement in June of 1974. Leah was a devout Lutheran and attended St. John's Lutheran Church in Napoleon where she was a member of the church council and secretary for many years.

Nephew: Larry G. (Barbara) Fonseth Sr. of Fountaintown, IN
Great Nephew: Larry G. (Christy) Fonseth Jr. of Illinois

She was preceded in death by one sister, Marthenia Florence Thielbar Fonseth, in 1976.
