Richard Bernard Kappes age 72 of Osgood, Indiana was born May 23, 1943 in Covington, Kentucky. He was the son of the late Raymond Bernard & Edith Freel Kappes. He would have been married 52 years on August 3 to Judy Mae Peace as they were united on August 3, 1963 in Osgood at St. John's Catholic Church. To this union were born 2 sons & 2 daughters. He was a past 41 year employee of Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, Indiana where he retired in 2003. His family explained that he had a bigger that life attitude! He was known by the nickname of "Speed" as this is how he approached life in general, with very much physical & mental fortitude of getting a job done! He often gave food to families that did not have enough to eat....making sure there was some candy there for the children. He had a big love for the great outdoors. Farming had been part of his life, even towards the end of his life with his health declining, he would still tell his family how to do the work & made sure they did it right! He would be seen at many auctions buying different things & if there were quails, he always bought all of them, releasing them on his farm just so he could hear the peaceful sounds they made....... they were NOT to be hunted! Raccoon hunting played a major part of his life, he did this with family & friends probably owning over 100 dogs in his life. Watching NCAA basketball & the Cincinnati Reds were also things he enjoyed. He spent time traveling to see his grandchildren compete in 4-wheeler & pull truck competition. All in all, Richard loved life......... he was a very strong & loving man & will be so greatly missed by his family & friends. He entered heaven on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 & is driving a "big tractor" in the sky!
